Caring For Children In Your Home

Family/Friend/Neighbor Care

Caring for one of two children (other than your own) in your home does not require registration or licensing from the NYS OCFS.

Family Child Care

Family Child Care programs are registered by the NYS OCFS and allow one adult to care for six to eight children at one time, depending on their ages.

Group Family Child Care

Group Family Child Care programs are licensed by the NYS OCFS and allow a minimum of two adults to care for 12 to 16 children at one time, depending on their ages.

Workshops

Council offers several workshops for those interested in exploring the possibility of starting their own Family or Group Family child care program. These workshops are not mandatory, however, we find that they are very helpful to new providers.

Informational Workshop: This 2 hour workshop offers information on the “who”, “what” and “how” of the application process, regulations and mandatory training involved in becoming a child care provider.  For more information call 516-358-9250  ext 28 or email training@childcarenassau.org.  Fee is $30 per person.

Child Care License Application:  In this 2 hour workshop we go over the application page by page.  This is especially helpful for people who are having difficulty filling out the application.  Fee is $60 per person.

For more information call 516-358-9250 or email training@childcarenassau.org.
