Opening a School Age Program

Before and After School programs serve only school-age children and operate separately from other child care programs. Unless operated on school grounds by a public or private school, or are strictly recreational, School Age programs must be registered with the NYS OCFS. These programs must meet the minimum requirements for health, safety, nutrition and children's programming. Program staff and Director must also meet specific credentials and/or work experience requirements. Care is provided for children ages 5 through 12 in group settings before and after school, during holidays, and during summer vacation. Care can be provided in a variety of settings including elementary schools, churches, temples and community centers.
